Local-First Architecture

Krosstabs is built with a "Local-First" architecture. This means that all data processing happens directly in your web browser. When you upload a CSV file to clean, weight, or analyze, that file never leaves your device.

Data Storage

We use standard web technologies (IndexedDB and LocalStorage) to save your datasets and preferences on your device so you can pick up where you left off.

  • Datasets: Stored in your browser's IndexedDB.
  • Settings: Stored in LocalStorage.

If you clear your browser cache or use "Incognito/Private" mode, this data will be lost. You can manually clear all data at any time from the Dashboard Settings.

No Cloud Uploads

Unlike traditional SaaS tools, we do not upload your sensitive survey data to our servers. We have no access to your respondents' PII (Personally Identifiable Information) or your proprietary data.

Your Account

If you create an account, we store what the account needs to work, and nothing from inside your files:

  • Sign-in: your email address and your plan.
  • Project and dataset details: project and file names, row counts, and each column's name, type and counts of distinct and missing values. Never a value from your data. If a file's first row looks like answers rather than column names, we store generic names (Column 1, Column 2) instead.
  • Activity: which tools you ran, on which file, and when, so you can see your history.

Error Reports

When something breaks, your browser sends an error report to Sentry, our error-monitoring provider: the error message, the page it happened on and your browser version. For a small sample of sessions, and when an error happens, the report includes a replay of the page with all text masked and all images and media blocked, so the values in your tables can't be read from it. We use these reports only to find and fix bugs.

Early-Access Waitlist

Before public launch, you may choose to join our early-access list. If you do, we store only the email address (and any optional role) you provide, solely to notify you when Krosstabs launches. We never sell or share it, and you can ask us to delete it at any time by emailing support@krosstabs.com.
